rainforest layers
The Forest floor is extremly dark as a result to this no plants can survive or grow down there due to the lack of sunlight. However a few animals and insects can live down in the forest floor such as an anteater.
The next part of the layers is the Understory or also known as the Shrub layer. In this area there is a little sunshine so that plants can grow, although for the plants to grow into big trees and have big leaves the need more sun. The plants that grow in this part of the layer can only grow up to 12 feet. many animals live in the understory like jaguars, red eyed tree frogs and lepords.
The second highest part of the layers is the Canopy layer. This layer forms a roof over the two layers underneath. this roof only forms because most canopy trees have smooth oval shaped leaves that come to a point. In this section of the rainforest it is homed to many animals because food is so plentiful. These animals consist of snakes, tree frogs and toucans.
The highest and last layer of all is the Emergent layer. The Emergent layer is the tallest trees going up to 200 feet above the forest floor and trunks that measure up to 16 feet. these trees are so big because the get the most sunlight. The animals that live up here are eagles, monkeys, butterflies and bats.
